Join me in the studio for an evening of collaborative linocut printing!
We’ll be playing the surrealist drawing game ‘exquisite corpse’ (consequences) but with linocut. We’ll each be assigned a different part of the body to design and carve, then at the end we will print them together to create a series of strange hybrid creatures. You’ll have time to carve your assigned body part, and then if you’re quite quick you can carve an additional part. Then we’ll swap pieces and you can print a series of creatures to take home.
I thought this game would be interesting to do in a queer workshop where we can play with ideas of bodies, gender, and queerness. Feel free to create any kind of creature parts you want, the more creative and unusual the better! It could be an animal, a human, a combination of both, any gender/size/shape you want.
This workshop will be less about creating a ‘perfect’ finished print, and more about exploration, play, and collaboration. I’m looking forward to seeing what we create together :)
When: Wednesday September 9th, 6-8pm
Where: Studio 102, Percy Williams Building, Krowji, Redruth (the outside doors will be locked, so I’ll meet you downstairs at 6:00 and let everyone in)
Who is welcome: Everyone! This is a safe and welcoming space for everyone. Beginner and experienced printmakers welcome. The building is wheelchair accessible and has gender neutral/accessible toilets :) Just let me know in advance if you have any specific accessibility requirements
What to bring: Wear clothes that you don’t mind getting ink on! You can bring sketches or reference photos to help with your designing but it’s not a requirement for this one
